Contest is now closed!

The Stanley Cup playoffs are upon us! To celebrate, we at Vintage Hockey Cards Report are giving away a small prize pack of hockey cards. It’s a humble collection of nine cards but it’s free and really simple to enter and win!

Just the facts:

  • Entry is free – just leave a comment at the bottom of this article with who you believe will win the Stanley Cup – has no bearing on your chances of winning.
  • Entries accepted worldwide.
  • Entries accepted up until the Cup is hoisted.
  • You could win 9 mediocre hockey cards!

If this ‘starter pack’ of hockey cards tickles your fancy, just go down to the bottom of this article and add a reply to the comment section. Here’s the kicker – you must leave a comment with the team you believe will win the Stanley Cup. This has absolutely no bearing on your chances to win but will separate you from the endless parade of spam comments that get deleted on a daily basis. It is mandatory that you leave your name and e-mail address on the comment form – this is how we will find you if when you win.

Entries will be allowed up until the actual moment when the Stanley Cup is presented. At that time, a name will be picked from a jar of ballots (old school style – no high tech electronics here!). The cards will be mailed to the winner on the following day.

The cards:

Name Brand Year Card # BV
Vic Hadfield Topps 1963-64 54 $15.00
Phil Esposito Topps 1974-75 200 $4.00
Ralph Backstrom O-Pee-Chee 1974-75 47 $4.00
Espo/Clarke Topps 1973-74 2 $3.00
Ken Hodge O-Pee-Chee 1973-74 26 $3.00
Sittler/TML Leaders Topps 1975-76 328 $2.50
Buffalo Sabres Topps 1973-74 94 $1.50
Stan Mikita Fleer GOTG 2001-02 31 $1.00
Mike Krushelnyski City-Press 2007-08 367 $1.00
$35.00
The backs – click on image to enlarge.

All are in decent but maybe not mint condition (see scans of front and back – click on the image to see it at full size). There are no serious creases and the corner wear is minimal. Book value is the high price from the latest Beckett Hockey Monthly and is just an estimation.

The Mikita Fleer card is NOT autographed! This would shoot the value up to about $80.

The Vic Hadfield card had the back scratchy-thing scratched a long, long time ago.

The 1973-74 Topps cards are not perfectly centered – as usual.

The Darryl Sittler / Toronto Maple Leafs team leaders card has some residue on the front.

Perhaps the most under-rated card of the bunch is the Buffalo Sabres team card. Tim Horton and Gilbert Perreault in the front row – quite cool.

The fact that the Phil Esposito / Bobby Clarke 1973-74 card is considered a common league leader is a bit of joke, too.

As for the Krushelnyski card from Germany’s Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) – I’m not really sure what the value would be. I feel, Euro cards are an untapped market…

My Stanley Cup predictions:

First round winners:

  • East – Rangers, Bruins, Devils, Flyers
  • West – Kings, Red Wings, Blackhawks, Blues

In the finals? It will be an Original 6 final! Boston Bruins over the Detroit Red Wings in five games.

A final note:

Coming soon (TBD) – I will be blitzing pretty much my whole collection on eBay. When I do, registered subscribers to Vintage Hockey Cards Report will get FREE SHIPPING on any purchase (eBay user: Samworth1968). Subscribe now to receive notification on when this will happen and ensure that you get the shipping discount.

  1. Guess I’m first… I’m hoping to see the Rangers win it, but would be fine with the Blues as well. Maybe I just want that sweet Vic Hadfield card!

Great work on the site so far!

  2. I would have said the Penguins, but they are not looking so good right now down 3-0. I will stick with them however, Pens in 2012!
