After a stellar four year junior career with the OHA’s Oshawa Generals from 1962-63 to 1965-66, Bobby Orr took his revolutionary style of offensive minded defensive play to the National Hockey League. He lasted just ten years with the Boston Bruins and 26 games over two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks before injuries cut his NHL career short. Yet, Bobby Orr is still considered, to this day, to be one of, if not the, greatest defenseman to play the game of hockey.

From 1966-67 to 1975-76, Orr re-defined the role of ‘defenseman’ with the Boston Bruins. He won the Norris Trophy eight times, the Art Ros Trophy twice, the Calder Trophy, The Hart Trophy three times and the Conn Smythe Trophy twice. He won the Lou Marsh Trophy in 1970 as Canada’s top athlete, an award won by only eight NHL hockey players to this day. He is the only defenseman to ever win the Art Ross Trophy. His records for most assists (102) and points (139) by a defenseman are current NHL records.
Orr missed the complete 1976-77 season then played just 26 games over two seasons with Chicago. He finished his career playing 657 regular seasons games, scoring 270 goals, assisting on 645 others and totalling 915 points. The normal three year waiting period to be considered for induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame was waived for Orr and he entered in 1979.
Collecting the hockey cards from Bobby Orr’s playing days can be an expensive proposition, but one that is well worth while.
