I thought we’d have some fun and test your knowledge of the guys on the front of your vintage hockey card collection. It’s easy when the name, position and team are printed on the front of each hockey card. With that info taken away, can you still pick out a hockey player just by an old picture?
After all, this guy:
Started out his NHL career looking like this:
So what we’ve got is a series of 20 hockey cards. The first image you’ll see is the hockey card cropped to show just the player. The following image shows the full card. See if you can get all 20 right.
To start, just click on the green and yellow ‘Click Here To Start’ button that shows up near the top and bottom of this article. If you’re looking for a larger view of the cropped images, just click on the picture. The ‘Next’ button will move you forward to the next step in the sequence. The ‘Home’ button will take you to the VHCR home page. There is not ‘Back’ button but hitting the back arrow on your browser will do the trick.
The hockey cards range from the early 1950’s until the mid 1970’s. Some should be quite obvious, even for those not obsessed with the history of the National Hockey League. One is a bit of a trick, coming from an error card. All are pretty important players in the league’s history.
Don’t be afraid to let us know what you think about this little experiment. Too easy? Too hard? Do you want more stuff like this at Vintage Hockey Cards Report? The comments close pretty quick on the articles at this site. This is not because we don’t want feedback. It is simply because we got sick of being bombarded by comment spam on a daily basis. Feel free to email or drop a message on our Facebook Page or on Twitter.
Clicking on the full card image of any of the 20 will take you to that specific hockey card’s spot in our virtual collection. We’ve stalled a bit with the VC as of late while working on some other pressing issues. The goal is still to complete the library from 1951-52 to 1979-80 before January 1, 2016. As the sets are completed, watch for some other cool stuff we have for those sets that brings a multi-media experience to the site.
Loved doing this. For me, it was too easy. I even tried guessing the cars set it was from. More like t his please.
