Behind Doug Jarvis and his 964 consecutive game streak, there is Garry Unger. Unger played 914 consecutive games between 1968 and 1979. He played every game for his teams each season from 1968-69 to 1978-79. In 1970-71, he even played one extra game after being traded from the Detroit Red Wings to the St. Louis Blues mid-season.
The Garry Unger rookie card can be found as card number 142 in the 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee set. Unger did not appear in the 1968-69 Topps set. In fact, Garry didn’t make his way onto a Topps card until 1970-71. His rookie card is valued at $30.

He also had a 41 goal season in 1972-73 with the St. Louis Blues and finished tied for sixth in the league. For points, he topped out at 83 in 1975-76 with the Blues but was far from the NHL’s top ten.
After his NHL career was over, Unger headed over to England for three years (1985-86 to 1987-88). in 1986-87 with the Peterborough Pirates of the BHL Division 1, he scored 95 goals and assisted on 143 for 238 points in just 30 games.
When the Central Hockey League began operation for the 1992-93 season, Unger was behind the bench for the Tulsa Oilers. Tulsa won the league championship that year, beating the Oklahoma City Blazers in five games in the finals. Garry was named the recipient of the Commissioner’s Trophy as Coach of the Year. The following season, Tulsa went to the finals again, this time falling to the Doug Shedden coached Wichita Thunder in four games.
